Climate change and mental health

Behavioral change and communication about the impact of climate change on mental health are the priority areas of the NPA`s activity. In 2019 after the Lisbon Summit a group of passionate colleagues gathered and created a task force. Since that time the group has been working in the NPA. The group goals are developing a strategy for informing colleagues and involving them in the global movement of psychologists to change behavior and prevent a climate catastrophe.

The group creatures information materials for colleagues, useful tools, videos, conducts lectures and events for psychologists and the general population.

On this page you can find different materials that are available in English.

We also have been working on a series of short animations about climate change and environmental crises and it's influence on mental health for a wide audience.

Members from our group took part in the Psychsolutions competition organized by the APA with the idea to create an online training course for psychologists, medical workers and teachers about climate change and mental health, and we won the People's Choice Award. With the support from the APA’s office of international affairs, our team implemented the idea. Our training course is called «Climate change, mental hea^lth and environmentally conscious behavior» and we made English translation. You can watch our course here.

In 2021, we conducted research about beliefs, attitudes towards climate change, behavior patterns, and barriers of pro-environmental behavior among psychologists. This study was carried out as part of the preparation of the training course for professionals called "Climate change, mental health, and environmentally conscious behavior".  You can click and read a short report below.
